GLOBALIZATION, TRANSNATIONAL TERRORISM: A CONSTRUCTIVE INVESTIGATION

This study is a constructive investigation of the extent globalization has aided transnational terrorism, and how transnational terrorism has posed serious challenge to the peace and security of the international system. The paper argues that the unhindered globalization of the international system have facilitated the operational capacity of terrorists organizations and have made it possible for them to operate with mechanical efficiency, a situation that have undermined the peace and security of the international system. The paper maintains that the widespread of transnational terrorism has been due to the unhindered influence of globalization. In particular, the study posits that advanced Information and Communication Technology, as a product of the globalization has engendered wide spread of terrorist activities in the world. The Paper finds that the availability and accessibility of Internet facilities has enhanced the ability of terrorist organizations to recruit members all over the world and carryout coordinated attacks across global geographical space. The paper recommends among others: the global community to utilize the resources at its disposal for a coordinated and systematic approach against transnational terrorism; for synergy in global counter terrorism efforts; for governments to partner to reduce poverty, provide education infrastructures, and for restructuring of the global social/ economic system that makes for inequality in the world system. It also argues for a broad base approach in intelligence gathering to effectively counter transnational terrorism.
